  4.         Question: Can my customers who want to send and receive faxes
  5.         from Windows use WINFAX PRO with a Sportster or Courier fax
  6.         modem, and how?
  7.  
  8.         Answers: Yes! WINFAX PRO 2.0 provides an EIA-578 Service Class 1
  9.         type fax modem interface that is compatible with Sportster and
  10.         Courier fax modems.
  11.  
  12.         WINFAX PRO 2.0 installation prompts the user for the port on which
  13.         the fax modem is installed.  If this is chosen correctly, the
  14.         WINFAX installation program will identify a Sportster or Courier
  15.         fax modem as a Class 1 device and automatically select the correct
  16.         driver. The modem must be turned on for this to work.

  18.         If the user doesn't have the modem connected when installing WINFAX
  19.         PRO, "Class 1 Send/Receive" can be selected from the list in the
  20.         "Fax Device" window. Although there is a listing for a U.S.
  21.         Robotics WorldPort 2496, WINFAX will NOT work correctly with
  22.         Sportster or Courier fax modems if the WorldPort 2496 is selected.

  24.         If the fax modem is not turned on, WINFAX will ask you to select
  25.         from a list of supported fax modems.  In this case, select any fax
  26.         modem from the list, and when you return to the "Driver Setup"
  27.         window, you can then select "Class 1 Send/Receive."

  29.         If you selected "Class 1 Send/Receive" during installation, WINFAX
  30.         PRO now knows that you have a Class 1 fax modem attached. However,
  31.         every modem uses slightly different commands for settings, so
  32.         you'll need to enter an "Init String." Just follow these steps:

  34.         - From the WINFAX PRO Administrator select "FAX" from the menu.
  35.  
  36.         - Within the FAX drop down menu select "Setup..."
  37.  
  38.         - Within the WINFAX Setup window select the "More..." button.
  39.  
  40.         - Within the Fax/Modem Setup window enter "&H2&I2" in the "Init
  41.         String:" box. This will set the modem up to use Software
  42.         handshaking for data flow control.
  43.  
  44.         - Within the Fax/Modem Setup and the WINFAX Setup windows select
  45.         the "OK" buttons.

  47.         Delrina Technology, Inc., which manufactures WINFAX, is currently
  48.         adding Sportster and Courier fax modems to their selection list for
  49.         WINFAX PRO installation. Soon you'll be able to select from up to
  50.         eight different USR fax modems during the WINFAX PRO installation
  51.         and the proper fax modern initialization string will be added
  52.         automatically.
